WorkBasket Magazine

What a wonderful little magazine!

In my opinion it was the best craft magazine ever published.  I grew up with Workbasket teaching me the love of crafts and the wonderful way of thriftiness and good common sense.  To me it was every bit important to my education as was school and church.
The articles were based on the now popular theory of recycling, and reusing.  Making your dollar stretch and making extra cash was a very important concept in the 40's just like it is so very important in these times.  Today we call it going green but back then it was just good common sense.

In October, 1935 Aunt Martha's Workbasket, Home and Needlecraft, for Pleasure and Profit was published by Modern Handcrafts of Kansas City, MO.  The Aunt Martha's was dropped from the name in 1942.  In 1959 the words Home and Needlecraft for Pleasure and Profit were dropped from the name.
The Workbasket was last published in 1996.

If you are looking for a pattern from an old Workbasket I would be more than happy to help. Just email me and if possible let me know the year and month the pattern was published or just describe it if you don't know.  You can also try this Workbasket Look Up site.  I have over 200 Workbaskets ranging from 1950 to 1994 and adding more when ever possible.  I would love to hear from you if you are interested in getting rid of any of your issues also.
